Phone charging/airplay problem

I recently noted that my iPhone wouldn’t charge via the USB in the centre armrest storage box, thus neither will Airplay connect.
Has anyone else encountered this?
I was wondering whether it’s an iOS update issue

My iPhone charging fine using a Qi charger plugged into the usb port

Most likely a damaged cable.
