OK, it was only £28 last time and now it's £40.52 but still reasonable money for 24GB over 2 years for a SIM in the car.

Used to have 2016 Macan Turbo PHCKCL70
Previously a 2014 Macan Turbo.
Now a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR

I am the world's least IT-aware person and am unlikely to make any use of Connect +, Carplay etc etc. I definitely wouldn't have specced it on my car, but it comes as standard.
Still haven't even succeeded in activating the app on my phone! Wacko
When I collected my new car, the SE said not to bother with an SD card, as all of his customers already have, or get their phones upgraded to unlimited data...!? Does that sound right to you more tech savvie folks...?! Confused

Unlimited data plans are generally quite expensive and most are not that unlimited anyway.
For the convenience of having a SIM always in the car, you don't need that and can save a lot of money.

Eg Three do an all-you-can-eat 12 month contract for £24/month (tethering limit of 30GB/month).
That's not bad if it's in your phone, but still quite pricey (given the data-sim is £1.66/month and your phone contract could then be much cheaper)

Assuming you want to use at least nav online search and RTTI the car needs data access.

The car can connect to your mobile phone via the phone's wifi hot-spot to get the data. For this to work you've got to ensure the hot spot is active on your phone; they mostly turn off if not used so an action to perform when you get in the car. The phone will be using its own radio aerial, possibly augmented by putting the phone in the holder in the centre console which is supposed to boost the signal by establish a connection with the car's antenna. I've used this holder and couldn't detect any difference in signal strength in or out of the holder. Data on the phone's data plan is probably more expensive than the three offer.

or

Get a cheap 3 data only sim, put it in the slot, always on and a better signal. Bit of a no brainer really.

Ha ha LOL
It's a shame, as apart from help on the tech side, the OPC have been top notch.
I think that the in-car tech is moving more quickly than the knowledge of some SEs... Disapprove

I called EE as the OPC put in a 30 day 2 GB sim and now pay £9.00 a month on a 24 month data only plan. Clearly there were cheaper alternatives but now whenever I change the car I just take the sim and put in the next one.

Yes, but why do they offer BS advice instead of saying I don't know I'll get someone who does.

Assuming there is at least one person in the OPC with a grip on this. Might be an assumption too far.
