Using the radio won't put any sort of a strain on a car battery - it uses so little current. Also, the radio cuts out after 10 minutes by default.

Radio shouldn't but I believe some BMWs power up the entire media system and that can draw a lot

Is the Macan not possibly the same. Why else would it turn itself off so quickly. I find it a bit annoying.

But you can switch back on again. Why would the system allow that if it was a threat?

Even when New my X5 would display a battery discharge warning after a short while and the hand book recommended turning everything off if engine not running. Furthermore I don’t think it would allow the radio to work with ignition off.

Using the same theory - why would the system turn it off if it was not a threat in some way.

Probably "modern" systems are no longer "just a radio".

As protection against simple forgetfulness. :)

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve looked at that little REST logo a few times and wondered briefly what it’s for!
I’ve now used it several times! :P
Like others I think the radio/Nav switches it’s self off after a fairly short time to protect the battery. I just wish the radio wouldn’t switch itself on every time I put the key in the ignition!
