Charles - do you believe it's the PCM and the radio frequency it uses? It seems odd that in a good LTE reception area it would be stuck on 3G. Before I head back to Porsche, I'm trying to get a feel for what the cause could be.

Someone suggested that Three might use a different frequency to EE and that the PCM doesn't support it.

I looked - EE and 3 both use the same frequencies (https://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/). I had also looked at the PCM stats and some point and couldn't see an issue. So no, I can't explain it. I don't find an issue with the mainly 3G so I hadn't done anymore, even though it is a bit annoying. I had a stock of 12 month 3 cards so wanted to use them up.

3 is strange.

If I look at the 4G coverage map for where I live I get that its marginal, but always have LTE showing in the Macan.

Our Daughter has a 3 mobile and has no signal when she visits yet Texts and Messages both get delivered.

I should have excellent 4G coverage on 3. And in a MiFi unit I get 4G, but not in the Macan.

That's exactly it. Excellent 4G coverage nothing on the PCM. I will try an EE sim tomorrow. If I do get 4G it might be that the PCM doesn't use the 1800 Mhz frequency but only 2600. Wild guess.

Good To Know says it supports LTE on 800, 900/1,800 and 2,600 MHz.

In which case it makes no sense...

I have used the Three SIM card 2 years 24gb for a number of years for various things.

In the Macan I connect to the WiFi and do a speed test from my phone and get around 7-10mb.
Take the sim card out and run it in my backup router and I get 30mb.
Same location and device to test.

So for me the PCM is only working at 3G or there is a limit on the WiFi. I am due a PCM software upgrade on my Dec 16 Macan GTS on Tuesday and will then retest to see if any change.

I don’t really need anymore speed than that when out and about anyway but if the kids want to start streaming stuff then 4g will be an improvement.

Has anyone done a speed test connected to the Macan WiFi with an EE sim?

Kasfranks99 - did you report a ‘fault’ to get the PCM update? I have reported a few on mine (including an offset surround view image) but they keep telling me that there is no update. Mine is a Jan 17 car.

No faults reported and I have no faults at all with the Macan in just over 2 years. Maybe once or twice Camera has not come up but switch ignition off and back on and problem resolved.

I just asked that I wanted the latest software update done. The latest update only came out about 2-3 weeks ago and had to be ordered in on an SD Card. Process should take an hour or so at OPC

I will update next week once all done but I don’t think this will do anything with the sim issue but never know.
