I had burmester in my macan which I just sold. It was an excellent sound with clarity and depth.. I've now got the Bose in my panamera and it's not a patch on the last car. You are 100% accurate. Bass and mids are muddy and the highs not crisp..Riomacan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 5:35 pm I have spent two hours at the OPC listening to the sound systems of Bose and Burmester, to make my own mind up.
Of course this is all down to want you like and want. Everyone has their views from standard is fine, Bose is good/bad and Burmester is not worth it to worth every penny.
My 2p worth....Bose is OK, not as good as Harmon Kardon in a BMW, the Bose system sounds good until the volume goes up and the bass becomes poor/muffly. The definition in the speakers at a reasonably high volume is average at best. So, while I thought I could live with that I then sat in a Burmester clad unit...................absolutely different, we tried classical to rock and that was it. I said to the SE, thanks, that's it sold.
The thing is, if I went for Bose I would have this niggle in the back of my mind for a car I want they way I want.
If you enjoy your music and like quality definition that does not suffer distortion, it's Burmester. The price....it's only money
I hope this helps anyone having the same conundrum.

Agree. I tend to use flac files.. seems fine.TheTraveller wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 2:01 pm Something to think about, is if you are listening to music from an MP3 device, the range of sound tends to be topped and tailed, bits of it have been edited off. This is to increase the capacity of music on the device. So although it sounds ok, with all the other noises happening in the vehicle, you will never be getting the full range.

I have Bose.
I used some FLAC files to produce MP3 files at different data rates.
At a Macan meet Nuclear Nick and I sat in my Turbo and listened to the tracks.
FLAC was very good
MP3 files
320bps was perfectly listenable but lacked mid range and high end clarity.
256bps also listenable but limitations throughout the frequency range
160bps not one you would use for quiet music, OK for Rock
Lower bps rates forget it.
Create your own files and test out the systems in an OPC.
If you are not listening to high quality music files when assessing the performance you are not listening to the best the installed system can sound.
