I bought TomTom Western Europe many years ago for about £75 for the app. Used it lots and lots, but then they gave up support for it and wanted me to use the TomTom Go app instead - with the subscription attached.

Since then, I have been using Google Maps which works well in CarPlay, so no, I won't be using TomTom.

I gave up on Tom Tom when it sent me down a country road that petered out at a ragin torrent of a supposed ford across a stream.

Agree. This TomTom old / non-updated app proved the most useful navigation tool on our trip around Sicily recently. Google maps kept cutting out due to no signal, same with Waze.

Shame that they changed it to that dreadful TomTom Go app where you only get about 50 miles free or some such.

Google maps kept cutting out due to no signal,
Google maps has an 'Offline maps' feature to help with this. Great if you are somewhere with poor signal or to avoid roaming costs.

That is true, but I never got on with Google off line maps feature, the way of selecting what maps to download and the updating warnings.
