Cracked windscreen
Excellent, thanks. Now why isn't that added into the info available in the configurator? It would sell a few more, for sure.

The heated windscreen is a very effective option in the Gen. 2 Macan, with a layer of gel set between two layers of glass: an ice- or frost-covered screen clears within about 30 seconds. I can definitely recommend it: the gel is completely invisible too !AllanG wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 3:30 pmThis is the wording taken from the Porsche.de website regarding the heated windscreen for the Gen 2 Macan:-Neil1911 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 2:17 pm I stand to be corrected, and will be delighted to be proved wrong, but I don't think we need worry about screen replacement and heating because there is no heating element built into the glass. Ford do it that way and had it patented, although that may have expired now, it works superbly, I had two cars with it. I'm convinced the Porsche approach only uses the ventilation/aircon sytem, so no impact from screen replacement.
“A heated windscreen is optionally available for the compact SUV for the first time. For this, a special film is integrated in the windscreen that does not need any heating wires.”
Agree, the heated windscreen option is worth it and much better implementation than the Ford and JLR wired element that can get distracting in direct sun light.
Would also agree on the comment about the standard blower doing the job which works for some but I’m not an early bird so any time saved when late for work or doing the school run is a bonus.
Also, not sure if it’s part and parcel of the heated windscreen and but I find when I wash my car the water tends to sheet so I don’t need to dry it to avoid water marks. I could be wrong though as maybe someone applied some kind of long lasting treatment at some point.
Only thing that annoys me about mine is someone has dry wiped it putting light scratches right across my line of sight. I’m tempted to put a crack in the screen just to get it replaced.

Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) optical coatings have been utilised in the military vehicle sighting systems for over 50 years, what commercial vehicle manufacturers have done is perfect the lamination process (autoclave) for a large curved windscreen.RAA wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 11:00 amThe heated windscreen is a very effective option in the Gen. 2 Macan, with a layer of gel set between two layers of glass: an ice- or frost-covered screen clears within about 30 seconds. Booked into autoglass on Saturday (£115 excess), Porsche wanted £873 plus £121 if I “wanted” the camera’s calibrating…
Did some digging, screen from autoglass and one from Porsche both come from same supplier in Czech Republic!

I dropped into Autoglass in Stockport last week to get an opinion on stone damage (leave it and see if it deteriorates) and the guy told me that if I ever need a new screen to "ask for an OEM one" otherwise I wouldn't get one, he must have thought they were different.....

Some are but in case of Macan, one has a small Porsche stamp (OEM) and one does not. Both items made in same factory to same spec.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 29, 2023 9:16 amI dropped into Autoglass in Stockport last week to get an opinion on stone damage (leave it and see if it deteriorates) and the guy told me that if I ever need a new screen to "ask for an OEM one" otherwise I wouldn't get one, he must have thought they were different.....
Tbh I couldn’t care less as long as I can see through it and it’s fitted properly

Unless things have changed, the reason you have to take the car to an Autoglass centre is so they can calibrate the cameras. All inclusive of course.

That’s what they said Peter
I popped into it yesterday as it’s not far from me and is quite an impressive unit to be fair. They were doing a Bentley Bentayga at the time so pretty sure my Macan will be just fine…
