I remember years ago clunking the wing mirror of my wife's ML into one of those bl00dy toilet cubicle things....... I was concentrating on keeping the wheels off the kerbs.....

After damaging both front wheels on my XJ going up the ramp to the upper deck, I booked as a high vehicle this year. Off next week so hope to have a better experience.

Just travelled back on Eurotunnel 2 days ago in a 5 series on the upper ramp. It was definitely tight & know exactly what you mean about those toilets ..... Nearly took out a mirror trying not to damage wheels too!

I go for the high-sided option with my Cayenne. No extra charge and sometimes get on earlier train too. Calais side not fussed about height of vehicle but Folkestone side sometimes checks at barrier. Just point out that issue is "kerbing" alloys due to width of vehicle and not height.

Came back from France three weeks ago just in time to see the unfortunate souls starting to queue at Folkestone.

Just travelled across on the train to Europe and booked our current Mini Countryman (Macan not due until November) as less than 1.85m but with a roof box.

When driving to the loading lines there's one point where it directs vehicles less than 1.85m under a very robust overhead metal barrier. No way we'd fit under so took the decision to avoid this. At the next 'check' it was never queried and we were directed on to one of the front single height carriages. Perfect!

Came back from France at the start of the month booked as high vehicle - no problems at all. Carriage is wider but it still doesn't feel huge! Only downside is less toilets as they are only at both ends of the high vehicle section.

Well worth it though...

Yes, much wider as you can see ... been booking as a high vehicle for a few years now, never queried, we need to protect our wheels.
There will be 10 Macans in convoy in early June, all booked as high vehicles, should look good, photos will follow
