Eurotunnel Carriage Width

Interior and Exterior bodywork Issues and Fixes

Preparing for the annual trip to France and read on this forum the issue with the width of the carriages and the possibility of wheel damage.
I questioned Eurotunnel on this and received the following response.
Thank
you for your email.

When you travel in this vehicle (Macan) please book it as needing "high"
space and indicate that your vehicle is above 1.85 metres in
height. We can then board you to the single deck carriages which are
much wider - they can take 49-seater coaches etc. Please follow the
routes on the terminals for high vehicles.

In the event that you are challenged by a member of staff asking you to join
another queue you must refuse and refer to this correspondence. Our
Customer Relations Manager is Lorraine Dilucia and she says she will be happy
for you to use her name if needs be.

My MB GL fitted in the usual carriages without problem so would have thought a Macan would too.

I would guess the MB GL has more rubber that would protect the rim should it go against the metal edge of the vehicle track in the train carriage. The Macan tyres are probably much lower profile thus the metal edge would damage the rims if the driver gets it wrong.
Could be an excellent use of the surround view option.

The Macan fits just fine, but steel curbs and expensive wheels don't mix, so always go for the truck carriage.

Used to have 2016 Macan Turbo PHCKCL70
Previously a 2014 Macan Turbo.

Those metal kerbs are a swine, as are the protruding toilet sections - always choose high vehicle when booking.

It would not be so bad on the standard carriage if you were not sent to the top deck at times. It's quite a steep ramp and it's hard to see the kerbs as they narrow down going into the carriage. Disapprove
