My 'original' dark ones (Jan 2017) are now pretty bad. I'm logging the issue with the OPC but am not in a rush to get them replaced.

They must be taking the P, lots of examples here on the forum, had mine changed once already and the replacements are showing same deterioration. It's clearly a common problem with the black tips, same for coloured wheel caps centres.CharlesElliott wrote: ↑Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:47 am Guildford just told me this is the first they’d heard of the issue!

Mine was showing evidence of this when I sold it as well. I would suspect anyone that doesn't have the problem just hasn't looked closely. I do wonder if its a petrol only phenomenon? I know very few diesels have black tailpipes, but it was an option, so would be interesting if anyone here has one to confirm.

Same issue exists on the black sports tailpipes on the RS4/RS5 Audi's. to replace them, it's a bumper off job...from what I remember, most dealers were reluctant to support on it until you involved Audi UK...Rab J wrote: ↑Mon Mar 26, 2018 8:49 pm Mine was showing evidence of this when I sold it as well. I've got black tips on an SD (only 3.5k/5 months) and although I thought the O/S outer had some spotting when new, there is no real evidence of corrosion so far? I do spray the pipes with silicone spray after the occasional event of washing the car, as I've found over the years that this helps prevent the gases/condense eating into the finish, either black or chrome.
An example from my 981.

Similar story here. After initial pitting in Feb 17 (Dec 16 GTS) I took it back to OPC mid Sussex who cleaned them up and returned the car, saying there was no issue. This was after a few posters here were already on their second or possibly third sets. So I didn’t protest or think much more of it but fast forward to today and the pitting is bad, similar to Towser’s photo and it ain’t shifting. So should I take it back to OPC and argue the warranty issue was notified in early 2017 or expect they will fob me off again?
