My car's windscreen is being replaced on Monday, damage from flying stone exactly in my eye line.

Work being done by OPC for a very modest £1800.

Why do you think £1800 for a windscreen is 'very modest'?

No only a rear camera. I think after the advice here I'll just leave the screen as they are tiny and I'm pretty sure since they've resprayed the front end I'll be told to do one LOL

Just had an irritating windscreen chip (also in the 2/3mm bracket) fixed by Autoglass. It was directly in the line of sight, they used their UV hardening resin glue before polishing and now don't notice a thing. Cost zero (on insurance) and the guy was punctuality itself. About as painless as anything "stone chip" could be.

things must be just cheaper in the south west, three quotes for new windscreen range from £800 to £850 and yes original manufacturer and calibrated.
would be worth a day trip and save £1000

Don't really mind how much it costs as insurance is paying.

Quotes from OPCs or other suppliers?

Think calibration time varies according to equipment fitted.

Retired,

Have you checked with your insurance company that they will be paying the full amount, including re-calibration?

From my experience when my windscreen cracked, I was only covered for the replacement windscreen, paying £75 excess only. However, if I wanted the lane departure warning re-aligned I would have had to pay the £1000 fee.
I am sure you have probably had confirmation but it would be horrible to find that out after.
