Hi all. Advice please.
A stone hit my windscreen the other day. Passenger side just above the wiper. It has made a chip along with some cracks around it the size of a tennis ball. It does not obstruct my view and i don't think it will get worse. The car in booked in for a service in Leeds on 14th Jan. (that is the earliest date they could give me with a lone car). My question is has anybody used autoglass for a replacement? Aviva my insurer is linked with them. Or should I get the OPC to replace it when they have it in for its first service.

Cheers

I’d establish whether your Macan has any options that require the car to be ‘re-calibrated’ after a screen change ( lane departure warning? ), and if yes, will /can Autoglass do this.
Your OPC can advise on this.

I had a screen changed on my SD, but as I insure with NFU there was only a small extra excess ( can’t remember - mebbe £40) for me to choose an OPC change rather than their preferred glass company. Aviva may seek to charge you a larger delta so worth investigating (although if Autoglass can’t re-calibrate, you can use that to insist on an OPC change.

In the past, the forum has had stories of poor workmanship (broken trim clips etc) by Autoglass, but then I believe some dealers will call in Autoglass to make the change.

At least if you do have it changed by the OPC, you have more peace of mind, and come back, that it will be 100%.
On balance, that would be ( and was) my choice, but others have been happy with Autoglass, and you might have an expensive excess to go that route.
Hope this helps.

Had mine replaced by Autoglass at one of their outlets and they also re-calibrated the surround cameras as part of the work.

Good job, the chap was very knowledgable and no probs.

I would have though that a good Autoglass guy who changes windscreens all day every day would have a better chance of getting it right than an OPC tech who changes one once in a blue moon. Of course Autoglass could have an odd plonker working for them, so you could be unlucky and get him.

I was delighted with Autoglass when they replaced my windscreen, the only thing to note was the fitter said that they are not given enough time for a complicated car like the Macan, they're allocated the same time for a car with no sensors involved.

I've just had my screen changed by my Sheffield OPC for reasons of warranty security.
They said they get in a specialist ( Autoglass?) to change the screen, but they then reprogram everything.
I paid the OPC then NFU paid me back directly in to my bank account, minus a £70 excess. No problems.

National Windscreens replaced the screen in my old SD (2015) and stated that the cameras didn't need recalibrating. The screen was replaced no issue but the non recalibration caused no end of trouble. It did eventually get sorted (new owner) by replacing the screen at the OPC.
