Hi All

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this as shown below

F7CC12F3-9C90-4212-8C8B-52CAECD7C769.jpeg

My car was first registered on 24th March 2016, although I took ownership in November 2017.

What’s everyone’s thoughts. Has it had poor paint work done prior to my ownership, and as I bought from and OPC do you think warenty will cover it.

It’s now covered 24k miles and certainly this issue wasn’t evident on my previous Macan at similar mileage.

Thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks
Dave

Have you had the car from new? or could it be a poorly done respray?

Dave says above that he wasn’t the first owner, so could well be a sub-standard paint job/re-spray before he took ownership... :geek:

Poor repair would be my first reaction (although strange that both sides are showing lacquer lift)

DaveS,
You said that you bought your Macan from an OPC. If it's an "Approved Used" car then it should have a two year warranty. IMHO the best course of action is to go back to the OPC and claim under warranty.

If, as other posters suggest, there is evidence of a respray then the claim will be rejected. If not, the defect should be covered by the warranty. Even if it has been resprayed (and given the damage is on both sides that is somewhat unlikely unless it's a poor warranty repair to an earlier paint failure) you can act the "injured innocent" enraged that the OPC sold you a car with a sub-standard repair.

I suspect that carbon panels were removed/installed, which required some re-spray to cover the damage done during the removal process.

Both sides with same problem, as Paul states would be unusual for both to have required a repaint. It looks like the lacquer has started lifting from underneath the side blades. Not sure what the fixing is behind them but if it's pegged through drill holes in the doors that would be the most likely area for the lacquer to have been initially compromised. Have the blades ever been removed?
Whatever I think a visit to OPC is in order as soon as possible as if original, the car has a 3 year paint warranty so you have some time to have them sort.
Be interested in the outcome, good luck.

Hope you get it sorted under warranty, Dave.

To check what side blades were on the car originally, perhaps check the original spec of the car using the car's VIN (I am not sure which website though, but OPC should be able to print the original spec sheet for you).

That might throw some light as to what the others have suggested above that the blades might have been swapped at some point.

A respray on both sides sounds odd. I believe it might be a poorly applied nano coat which is reacting with something (wax / shampoo / snowfoam) and coming off.
