Roof rail seal - anybody seen this before?

Hi everybody...

Have anybody had the rubber seal under their roof rail pole out before? I noticed this washing the car and not sure what’s going on... I’m guessing it’s something to ask the OPC about when my car is in to have the other issues sorted (I’m currently not especially happy considering the car has only been with me for 2 weeks) but ideas in the meantime very much appreciated!

Thanks

Definitely one for the OPC to explain

We have the roof rails and have had 4 bikes up there on a few holidays and have nothing that looks like that. Our car is 3 years old.

Looks like some rubber seal from underneath has not been seated correctly. Expect it was like that from factory as not sure how it could suddenly appear now

Definitely needs sorting as water could get in and then down into the interior

There’s some really interesting you tube videos on a channel called P Tech (I think). Shows the ins and outs of a Porsche technician at work for a dealer in America. Bad seal on a Macan roof rail was one of them I think

Thanks for the comments - a new OPC is taking the car in in a couple of weeks to sort several issues, including this. I'll update with whatever the fix is, and will probably pout a post up with the ins and outs of the purchase and issues - sadly at the moment it will be as a bit of a warning to other prospective buyers from this particular OPC.

Hi Max

I have the exact same problem as your car, I took to OPC and they told me they had seen the problem before.
I put in a claim with my Alliance extended warranty for new rails and seals and was knocked back by the customer service
rep no explanation given to why not, he told me go to the Motor ombudsman and complain to them which I have
done and recorded a case with them. I know the reason why he told me to go there it can take up to 6 months for
the case to be investigated and pass rate of claims for the customer is horrendous. The complaints about this agency
is woeful I think its about 96% failure rate on the agency they are that bad, and then you read how they are funded
you guessed it, by the Motor traders themselves (its a con).

I reported this fault a month ago on the site telling the members to aware of the Porsche extended warranty's if you are
with the very recent Garaunt Porsche approved warranty the Ombudsman don't recognise it and will not even open a case
for you, if your warranty is with alliance they will open a case (but going with the Ombudsman record of woeful customer
service and success rates what's the point. I wrote a letter to Stuttgart Germany and they referred it straight back to the UK
they didn't want to know what a terrible company to deal with. All I am saying is once your car is nearing the 5 year mark and
you have left the stealerships grasp you need to be careful in buying these very expensive warranty's. There could be host
of things the extended warranties don't cover and Porsche refer to Ombudsman and the Ombudsman tell you sorry they are
not on our list.

I have report this anomaly to Porsche Customer service UK and told them they could be prosecuted under the trade descriptions act
telling customers they can go to The motor Ombudsman with your useless Garaunt warranty when its not on their list (that's fraud)
and they should not get away with it.

Can the roof rails be removed from the outside or do they have to take out the interior roof liner to get at them? Just my curiosity to know?

Hi

They have to take all the lining down to get to the fastening nuts under the roof and they have to do both rails as they are sold as pairs, it is
a tricky job as the roof consul has to come of and if you have a sunroof like mine their is all the clips that can break around the
consul and sunroof so if not done right this could lead to rattles in the future.

Hi, did you ever get a solution for the problem?

I have the exact same problem on my Macan S 2017 that I bought two weeks ago (used). When I bought the car there where no visible problems, but now, two weeks later the rubber has started to come out on 4 different places along one of the rails. I have not used the rails/roofbars.

I talked to the dealer (certified Porsche dealer in Sweden) and they told me they had seen this on a few Macans. The solution they say is to cut it off with a razor blade, and they said I could do it myself. However it does not sound like a professional solution?

Any thoughts, do I dare to just cut it off?

Thanks
/Jesper

Here's a Cayenne. It's similar - a big job.
