I also spoke to a few tyre experts before ordering at all of them told me that they fit winter tyres for use all year round as they are nearly as good as summer tyres in the summer are the best tyres to use in the winter and they wear less than summer tyres overall so last longer.

Do some reasearch of your own and come to your own conclusions

Happy to be corrected, but I don't see how a softer compound winter tyre with many more, thinner, more fragile sipes can possibly last longer than a harder summer tyre if used all year round?

PS..recent research material....

Not here to correct anyone just providing an alternative view based on some personal research and experience.

I went from a X3 MK1
on all weather tyres to a MK2 on Summers. The all weathers handled
almost all weather conditions, including snow covered roads in
Scotland, without issues and never felt close to letting go during
normaal "spirited" driving they also lasted about 35K before down
to 3mm.

On the summers I had
no problem driving on snow (4 wheel drive) - stopping though felt
more like I recall stopping on week old compressed snow turned to
ice. They also lasted 20K before changed. Now when I look at the
modern summer tyres they have very different grip patterns to what I
recall in the past so I think they have become less suited for snow.
I do have a set of winters in garage, but not having a jack and it
not being snowy round here - I just haven't bothered taking them
down somewhere to change them.

I am not sure though
I can draw to much about the life of the tyres though as the cars
aare quite different and my commute is very different.

I doubt anyone
should be pushing a Macan to the limit of decent all weather tyres on
a public road let alone summers in right conditions, being concerned
about a small difference in braking distance suggests foccusing on a
single figure out of context, you can normally get far more safety by
leaving a second extra gap and that adds the extra advantage you are
less likely to be hit from behind as you won't be braking harder
than the person behind can (yes I avoided hitting something by quite
a margin, car behind didn't though).

Then we have the
joys of living in south UK - this last few weeks it has gone from
being being below freezing but dry to double figures and wet

Personally I picked
All weather tyres when I placed my order as these seem the best for
my needs - I expect the car on those tyres to have plenty of grip
left when forward vision limitations or my nerve limits what I ask of
it.

The other thing I
noticed with change from all weathers to summers - tyre noise
seemed much worse on summers, though I think some of that was the
make of tyre as I put different summers on and they seem quieter.

I've had two cars, just one with space-saver, so I voted 9 times.
That's how these multiple choice forums work, right?

You can disable all the airbags also, because most Macan owners drive so slow and careful that they won't be needed anyway...

And you can chose not to have extra airbags in the back irrespective of whether you carry people there!

Thanks for pointing that out! Now we can all agree that all weather tyres are the best and Porsche should stop putting summer tyres on their cars since they are pointless.

I don't have strong views either way! The point I was trying to make is that, when speccing a Macan, in certain areas (tyres, airbags, PAS*) we can decide to 'pay' for extra safety. Some people chose not too, and presumably chose to manage their risk in other ways, starting with the human behind the wheel and the decisions he/she makes about how (and when) to drive!
EDIT: * I forgot LCA/LKA or whatever it's called. I don't have it; as a motorcyclist I value the 'lifesaver' look over the shoulder! Wink
EDIT 2: And ceramic brakes ... apparently they work better!

I think you missed the point, Luke.

Nobody has said that AS tyres are better than summers just that they are a valid option and the performance differences in the summer are unlikely to affect anyone driving within the law.

We have those for and those against and those who do not give a damn.

But one thing is certain........we will not agree.

Enough is enough
