The M20 in Kent

I've driven to the tunnel / channel ports many times over the years in a variety of cars too numerous to mention. Whilst the road noise from the cheap concrete surface has always proved annoying, rumbling and thuds from the expansion joints, it was nothing compared to the first time in the Macan last week.

21" turbo wheels on a GTS, it's excruciating at legal speeds. A sort of high pitched, high frequency resonance that was like a dentist's drill for mile after mile.

Hs anyone experienced similar? Any tips to deal with it apart from pressing the fast pedal?

Yep. I regularly drive on the concrete sections of the M25. There seems to be a certain speed that generates the most road/tyre noise, somewhere in the mid 70s mph. Try going a bit slower, or a bit faster, and that should help a bit. :geek: Or turn the music up!

Yep, on both my Macans (one 21", one 20", both on air) the NVH on that stretch is just awful. Never experienced anything that bad in other cars/roads.

There's parts of the motorways in Japan that play particular tunes through the tire noise. They did that to encourage people to drive at the correct speed. Really good idea.

I remember Jeremy Clarkson attempting to reverse over one of those strips to see if there was a hidden message from Satan.

Any car I've driven (including LCVs ) around that section makes the same noise - the more tyre footprint you have on the road, the louder the noise!

Yea, but my R8 wasn't too bad that made a Macan look like a 2CV!

Ah, or was it just that the V8 sitting just behind your head was all you were listening to...?!😉

Not at all. The Humber bridge at exactly 45mph in the R8 was a comedy of road noise. Especially with dampers in sport mode :-)
