I just noticed that I have 60 profile tyres on the front and 55 profile on the rears.

I know that the profile value is a percentage of (something) and the width of the rears are more than the fronts.

So, is the different profile tyres to be expected?

Such is the power of my mind, everyone who reads this question will rush out to check their own cars....

It's normal/expected.
Used to have 2016 Macan Turbo PHCKCL70
Previously a 2014 Macan Turbo.
Now a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR

The 'profile' is the depth/thickness of the rubber tyre (outside of the wheel) expressed as a % of tyre width. Hence 55% of the rear tyre's width should be very close to 60% of the front tyre width, assuming front and rear tyres have equal rolling radius.

They are 235/60 on front of mine - so tyre sidewall height is 235 * 60/100 = 141 mm, and 255/55 on rear so sidewall height is 255 * 55/100 = 140.25 mm so less than a mm difference (would be 12mm difference if both were 60 profile)

Probably the same, just rounding makes the numbers slightly out. Profiles are always quoted in 5s I believe.
