Pirelli P Zero

Although a new version of the Pirelli P Zero came out in mid 2016 I note that my new Macan on 21” wheels came fitted with the previous generation P Zero. Whilst Pirelli show that both versions are still being manufactured I would have preferred the new version due to claimed better wear rate, mpg, wet weather handling. Both the old and new versions are NO certified. I guess the new version is more expensive. Has anyone got the new version fitted to their Macan ? Would still prefer Michelin however. I measured the tread depth when new and the max depth was between 6.5 mm and 6,8 mm. By contrast I still had 5 mm all round on my 20” all seasons Michelin at 23,000 miles.

Interesting to know how both makes stack up from members who do far more miles per year than I.
Both my Macans have had Michelins fitted, which reminds me must check the tread depth.
I had P Zeros on the Jag which I drove far harder than I do the Macan and it handled well in all conditions and yet still I achieved 40,000 miles on a set, sold the car with 100,000 miles on the clock and there was still a lot of tread left on the third set of P Zeros.

21000 on Pirelli’s with perhaps another 5,000 available seems better then I thought.

The 21" Zeros on my Macan were down to 4.5mm after 6000 miles when I sold it. I did think that the wear was fairly high being almost half worn, but if they only had 6.5 new that doesn't seem so bad. I did read somewhere that a lot of sports tyres don't have the 8mm of tread that normal run of the mill tyres have. I must check tread depth on the 911 when new and also whither its fitted with the old or new versions.

Blimey. 4.5 mm at only 6000 miles is not great.Rab J wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 2:59 pm The 21" Zeros on my Macan were down to 4.5mm after 6000 miles when I sold it.
