Hi all,

Anyone suffered this issue?

Dash display warning is “Power Steering Fail, increased effort Driving permitted”

Its Currently being sorted under warranty at my local OPC the service manager stating hes never seen it in the last 2 years (since hes been there)

Beginning to think ive bought a ‘lemon’ as it had a brand new gearbox fitted last month! 3 years old & 16k miles !!!! I bought it approved used with 9k on the clock 18 months ago.

Hi r1flyguy,

Sorry for the lengthy post but I had a very similar issue.

I have a 2015 Macan S that I bought Certified Pre Owned couple of months ago. Mileage is ~45,000 miles. I didn't have any issues so far until one fine day, the following error pops up.

"Steering support restricted Adapted driving permitted".

I was in a parking garage and when I started driving, I could feel the steering vibrating at low speeds especially while turning. I drove it for a couple of minutes in the parking garage and every time I turned the car off and back on, the message would pop back up. I left the car there and when I came back the next day, the message still popped up. I once again drove it for a couple of minutes in the garage and now, the following message popped up.

"Power steering fail Increased effort Driving permitted".

Power steering wasn't working any more. It took a lot of effort to steer. The interesting thing I noted after driving out of the garage was that there was fluid leaking under the car. I then went back and looked back at the couple of parking spots where I had parked the car since the messages popped up and sure enough, there were areas where it seemed like a dark fluid had dried up. I'm not sure if it's the power steering fluid leaking.

The car is at the dealership now. I'm curious to find out what they find out for each of our cars.

Hi both

From the service manager of the OPC, he stated he had not seen any issue like this in the 2 years he’s been there and last week another porsche model had a power steering fail, that one was due to a ruptured pipe, mine is a mechanical failure and requires a complete new steering system. I heard steering rack in the conversation but cannot be totally sure which components are being replaced.

Sounds like a generic reply designed to inspire confidence.

We used to have a workshop manager who would seriously say you had an internal fault when he didn't know what was wrong.

Presumably that would include a new steering wheel and replacement front wheels!

The actual power assistance system on a Macan is electric. There will still be a gearbox to translate the rotation of the steering wheel to linear movement of the steering rack.

If you've seen oil leaking then it's probably from that gearbox.

Mind you, just because a man on the internet says it's so doesn't make it so. ;)
