Agreed, Ray, at least here in the UK.
Winter tyres are a sensible precaution, even if not a flake of snow falls all winter.
The grip is much better than on summer tyres, even in dry weather, when the temperatures are below 7 degrees centigrade. The difference is more marked when it is cold & wet.
