Non OPC Wheels

I have been thinking about buying a set of winter wheels and tyres. It's a thought that just keeps nagging at me and won't go away. The prices at OPCs are pretty steep and I've been looking at two German companies who advertise on eBay: CW Performance Wheels and Carshop-meister. They sell both second hand and new wheels, the latter about 30% cheaper than an OPC, and claim that they are Porsche original parts.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience/knowledge of these companies? Can I trust them to provide a genuine set? Or am I better off buying from an OPC; or waiting for a second hand set with proven provenance?

Thanks for your advice.

I listed current Porsche prices for winter wheel/tyre sets on another thread. Brand new 18" Porsche wheels & N-rated winter tyres from about £1,800 including VAT and a bit of a discount. :geek:

Don't think any Macans are yet fitted with centre locks. ;)

Thanks, Guy, that's very interesting. One thing I'd worry about, if I used non-Porsche or counterfeit wheels, is invalidating my warranty (my current Macan is only 3 months old). I was once told by a Macan technician that I had invalidated my warranty by fitting a set of non Porsche mud flaps!

I guess it depends on your attitude to using non-OEM parts. I'm risk averse (there's a clue in my username!) and so bought a set of Porsche 20" SD wheels fitted with winter tyres when I bought the car. I got 10% discount at the time. For safety related items I'd stick to Porsche stuff, others on here are less risk averse and will tell you to go ahead with the non-OEM wheels.

On sizing, if you anticipate driving much on snow I'd go for 19" or even 18". Where I live I'm more concerned with grip on Tarmac at less than 7C and wet conditions so I use 20" winters, same size as the summer set.

If you do drive on snow you'll be amazed at the performance of winter tyres over summers.

If that is a worry to you, I don't see much point in saving a few hundred quid by buying non-Porsche wheels and/or non N-rated winter tyres. :geek:

If you will do limited miles in our UK winter, as I do - perhaps 1000 miles over 3 months, I would fit some Mak wheels, perhaps the Spyder looking Rennens, available in 18 and 19's, link here - https://www.makwheels.it/en-sh/porsche- ... els-1.aspx , with N tyres of course. I think there are some UK stockists.
If you plan significant mileage, perhaps a ski holiday etc, then OEM all the way.
