Over past few years have fitted winter tyres to my daily as i use it for work journeys, saves the nice wheels from the salt if nothing else.
This is my first Macan winter & I have acquired a set of used 18” wheels but can’t settle on what tyres to fit.
I think it’s going to be Michelin Pilot 5 Alpin SUV, which seem reasonably priced at £500 excl fitting from Oponeo
Any words of wisdom on the topic would be appreciated.

I bought 18" wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpions at the same time as I bought my Macan. They are just starting their fourth winter having covered over 12k miles. Tread is between 5 and 6mm. Performance in wet weather and snow has been great.

My only comment would be the there are two winter tyre brands given Porsche N-type approval in size 18. They are:-

Pirelli Scorpion Winter N0
Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830P NO

I have had the Continental and rate them as do the tests.

N approved may be easier to sell on and if still within Porsche guarantee on the Macan reduce the chance of guarantee issue.

A nod to Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830P NO from us too, which we used on our previous Macan for 3 winters.
We have just bought them for the 911 too.

The N rating is curious, because some of the Michelin Alpin types have it, but not in all sizes & appear to have approval for Cayenne with no mention of Macan.
My default choice is Michelin because of usual longevity, but the Pirelli’s seem to last well too.

Decision made
I watched some very interesting YouTube videos on the subject & learned a lot about how tyre perform at low temperatures, also that there are different kinds of winter tyres. As I live & work in the south east I went for Michelin Cross Climate SUV’s, they perform well on test in frosty, wet conditions, not the best in snow, but that is seldom an issue here. Not N rated, but Audi approved, so if it’s good enough for a Q5, it will do for me.

Another nod for the Conti TS830P’s winters from me. Don’t use them on my Macan as happy with the Pirelli Verde all seasons but had them on two of my previous motors + they performed fine re grip, noise & wear on Yorkshire roads.

I also always used to let my insurance co know when I put them on + took off - no charge but covered me for using something non standard - just in case!
