They have, apparently, taken on a gang of people from Aston Martin so some experience there albeit a bit focussed. The motor regs knowledge etc can be simpy bought, though. They're also supposed to be working with HM Gov re infrastructure
Not sure about that. My son is responsible for autonomous car testing for the VAG at Audi. One of his biggest headaches is different legistlation or lack of it in in different countries. No doubt EV's will pose similar questions.

Dyson's track record on other products is that they cost 2-3 times as much as their competitors. So I don't suppose the cars will come cheap - ever.

Their list price may be high but does anyone actually buy a Dyson at list price? They're the vacuum cleaner equivalent of Holland & Barrett! Or every car maker except Porsche!

From my perspective I am interested to see a design led solution. The UK produces some of the best product designers in the world and also has a long history of innovative engineering solutions so potentially it's quite exciting. It would be really very exciting indeed if the contract side of McLaren or Williams got involved too.

McLaren maybe at the top end of the market, Williams not a chance in hell

The tech involved in providing EV powertrains is totally alien to the traditional automotive industry hence why the likes of Tesla have been able to take advantage in recent years without having to worry about phasing out of legacy products etc. The chassis side is almost trivial by comparison. A bit like going from film to digital cameras. Totally different tech involved.

I wouldn't be too dismissive of a Williams involvement in EV battery tech....

I was sat next to the Head of Sustainability from National Grid today and we got talking about EVs and future energy demands. He said it’s the no 1 question he gets asked at the moment.

He pointed me to their Future Energy Scenarios publication. There’s an interesting sensitivity analysis around take up of EVs, resulting total and peak demand and how this would be met. This section is only 4 pages (from a much longer document) so worth a read for those interested.

Williams is just a racing company, the tech side is nothing like McLaren. Making very low production racing cars vs production cars is a totally different game.

Edit: and Williams use of KERS in 2009 was a disaster. Ask me how I know

Dyson, apparently, bought an embryonic battery tech business a year or so ago. It seems that they're working, as are others, on a solid state chemistry battery that will be smaller, lighter, more powerful, last longer, charge faster yet have hugely decreased risk of catching fire.
