At the Panamera GT launch last night in Belfast, they guy from Porsche UK stated from the podium that the Mission E will have a 300 mile range and battery technology that will allow the battery to be charged to 80% capacity in 15 minutes.

Perhaps it will be using this new tech? As reported in the motoring press this week:

A "game-changing" electric battery capable of a full charge in just 6 minutes is due to appear in 2019.

Japanese tech firm and lithium-ion battery manufacturer Toshiba has announced a new material capable of doubling a battery's anode capacity - the electrode used to discharge and recharge the battery. As well as the quick charge time, the new battery would deliver 320 km (200 mile) range.

Thanks, Peteski and Col for your comments. :geek:

The OPC at Swindon is pretty nearby for a charge up while I enjoy a coffee. :)

Hopefully, as folks have said, the network of decent charging points will increase quite rapidly over the next couple of years.

The fitting of a charge point to my brick-built carport sounds do-able, so long as the Mission E would fit! I could get my Evoque in it, but have not tried the Panamera. I notice that a neighbour squeezed a Transit into one though! :o

Latest news:

Mission E spied being tested at the Nurburgring. Apparently Porsche are aiming for the sub-Panamera sized Mission E to complete a lap in less than 8 minutes.

Putting it in the company of:

BMW M2 (2015)
911 (997) Turbo (2007)
Ferrari F430 (2006)
911 (996) Carrera S (2004)
911 (996) GT3 (2003)

And below, a rendering of how the model might actually look when launched in late 2019 :geek:

During the Panny presentation last Tuesday Porsche GB man made a big point of emphasising Porsche's policy of sticking as close as possible to the concept and demonstrating that statement by showing before and after Panny pics. And also that show concepts were not simply show-stopping PR stunts but actual market research.

Agreed, Mike. (Shame I couldn't get to Tewkesbury on Tuesday 😢 )

The Sport Turismo is certainly pretty close to the concept from about 5 years or so ago.

So I think that the red rendering impression above might be pretty close to the Mission E. :ugeek:

Just one of those things, Simon, unfortunately indicative of where UK roads are heading.

It was only modestly attended but worth it. The Panny looked stunning and the stuff they had on static display in the workshop was, let's say, expensive, with a 356 and rare 4.0 from just one owner!

I was totally bowled over by a Night Blue Cayman. 😜 If I had the cash and somewhere to park it I'd have done the deal there and then!

I wonder what the 3D printed inserts etc are about?

The white bits under the car? Measuring wind resistance, I think. Checking out the effect of different settings of the spoilers/aerodynamic aids.

When I was in last Friday, they estimated that 200-300 were due to attend. Quite a few were affected by the same roadworks that I encountered, I think.

Yes, those two cars (356 and 4.0) were in the showroom when I was in for the oil change.

The Cayman is a beautiful sports car. :)
