But it's a good excuse to raise more tax revenue from relatively wealthy car owners.

Buying a hybrid Porsche to drive the kids 1 mile to school :?
At least it's an improvement on a Porsche Turbo or diesel for the same task

Totally agree. Probably won't bother the very rich but will probably stop a lot of people from buying a new £40,000 + car.

AFV sales year on year % change: +41%
So in 11 months 41,041 sales of electric "cars eligible for the Plug-In car grant" compared to 1,008,267 diesel cars registered.
That's 967,226 more diesels than EVs.
Diesel market share = 42.2%
Pure EV market share = 1.7%

So what? It doesn't mean that everyone should buy diesels just because the manufacturers are still pushing them for their own profit. Diesel cars are a dead end and they know it. It's not a type of engine I'll personally miss anyway on any level.

It will only stop those who are truly scraping the barrel to afford a £40k car. £300 a year is peanuts, or at least should be for anyone thinking about spending £40k on a new car. What it will do in practice is piss people off! It may also affect pricing of cars very close to the threshold. There are quite a lot of cars with a list price just under £40k that would go over the limit with a few options. So a lot of those car buyers might well skimp on options to stay under the limit.

Exactly right. It won't affect buying but will annoy people. But let's face it - lots of people who can't afford a £40k car will be delighted with the policy. Extra tax for those who can afford it. And you can afford it if you are spending that on a car. But it is very annoying.

So what? Well ICE are far from dead as you imply and BEV is NOT the final solution. Going into 2018 I for one am VERY happy with my diesel. More developments WILL happen and one could well be bio / synthetic-fuel that will be the answer for new and existing ICE cars that provide the vast majority of motoring needs.

The distribution chain of all goods is with the diesel engine - ships, trains and trucks - cannot see that changing any time soon, not even by 2040.

I thought we had an abundance of water in Scotland and for what we pay in Water Rates this service is very inexpensive compared to Members south of the border. They are absolutely fleeced compared to the Scots ( Yes it rains every other day in Scotland it sometimes seems) and would not like to visit where the toilet is only flushed once a day ( that would remind me of the public toilets in Penang Malaysia)
Damn that's put me off washing the Macan now saving all this water will wait to next year to clean it
