I also am with NFU.
After reading some good reviews on this forum, I rang for a quote. He asked a lot of questions and it took a good 10 mins. The quote was about £30 pounds more then Aviva and £50 more for Which? Recommended insurers.
I had occasion to use them recently due to a cracked screen the the service and speed of payment excellent.

Another good aspect of NFU is that they'll replace the car if it's written off in the first 2 years.

My Aviva insurance was due on 29th Jan and they wanted £325 for my runaround Mini, I was not happy with it but because I was switching to a 911 in April I had to ensure any new company would insure the 911 , Aviva quoted about £550 for the 911 but I was not going to pay £325 for the Mini.

Saga (mini) was around £250 but would not insure the 911 as it was too expensive ( in there words) even using the underwriter.
NFU was £800 for the Mini and It was £1185 for the 911 and it needed a tracker.

So on LVE I did a quote for a 17 plate 911.C2 using a registration off my OPC's forecourt , it did not ask if there was a tracker fitted and it came back at £595.90, with the Mini was £265.65 protected with legal services so I have switched to them.

One major problem I found with Aviva is :
If you do a quote using the correct vehicle details ( not putting in the registration) and if you do it again using the registration it jumps up by anything from £100 - £150 !!! Even though you have selected the correct details for the car in the 1st place.

NFU in my experience it depends on your post code for a reasonable quote.

You’re right about NFU Spook - they are enormously post code dependant and can be very expensive if not in one of their chosen areas. If you are one of the lucky ones they seem to be excellent

happy days wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:35 pm I'm an insurance company's dream. Renewal comes in, and I just renew automatically. Not this time - I decided to shop around. Both cars are currently with Admiral; I'm an accountant, doing 10k a year in the 718. Wife is a HR manager doing 20k in the Macan. She reversed a golf into a skip and wrecked the tailgate and rear bumper - claim was for £1,722 in 2016. No kids at home (why do they ask this?), loads of NCB and both 35+ years license holders.

Admiral renewal was £1616. Tried NFU mutual, but you have to phone up - I don't do phone calls, sorry. Manning don't quote in NI. So I have spent a while on various websites, with prices for both ranging from £999 (AXA) to £2,662 (M&S). I think AXA will be getting my business this year.

The Macan was the biggest variation going from £548 (AXA) to £2,795 (Abbey) with 718 ranging from £450 (AXA) to £1,998 (M&S). Most were in the £520-650 range.

Looks like it pays to shop around.
I've just been through this BS. Get your local branch of NFU on a call back.

Some of the classic questions I've been asked:

Where did you get your licence? (I responded 'from the DVLA') It's UK issued but they wanted to know where I was born. The quote was higher based on the fact that I was born outside the UK despite getting a UK driving licence tested and issued in London as well as having a licence from a RHD former colony which I could just hand in and convert without test!

Beware bargain basement Admiral and their ilk - modifications are actually manufacturer fitted options and need to be declared. I spoke to them to get a quote just so I could benchmark costs and I have a roll cage as factory fit in one of the cars. 'Is that a dog gate sir?' was the response when asked for the options list and I told him about the cage. I gave up right then.

Speak to A-Plan Private Clients, they're good. I have ended up with Hiscox but was with Aurum before.

No kids depends on policy - if you have a policy where you can allow unnamed but authorised drivers, it's a filter question. I had that with Aurum and the limitation on it was 25. It's an avoidance on the high cost of new driver insurance. They also share databases so seemingly innocent questions are correlated.

Hiscox did well on Macan GTS as agreed value at £690 but Aviva were on at £420. Insuring 4 cars though so assume that 'volume' helped.

My policy is renewed this month. Got the renewal notice from Admiral (multicar - 4 cars) for £1050. Called them, asked what they could do to keep my business. Result is £750. 25% off for a 10 minute phone call.

Always worth a call.

Lockton quoted my forthcoming GT3 (3,000 miles per year) at £1500. Car value based on current market values so have to insure a 134k car for 190k, as that's what it would cost to replace.
