I know, wrong forum and wrong brand, but we’re collecting Mrs P’s TTS roadster in the morning and I was wondering what the collective wisdom might be from Boxster / 911 convertible owners on protection / proofing of soft tops?

I've used Autoglym CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP CLEAN & PROTECT COMPLETE KIT which I found to be good. Didn't use anything for the first few years though - just washed and cleaned roof while washing car. Audi TT roadster too - great wee car 👍 👍👍

Very easy to wash compared to Macan :D

My wife has a TT roadster, and it's certainly a lovely thing to wash! I just wash the roof when I wash the car, using Tesco Baby Bath. It's coming up for 5 years old and still looks like new.

I used to regularly vacuum the soft top with the sort of attachment that you use for fabrics/ curtains. Gets the ingrained dust out. Once vacuumed I would then just wash with a garden hose spray.

I drove a 987 Boxster for fours years and sold it at seven years old with a still perfect roof. I was always lead to believe that soft tops were best just washed with water, nothing soapy at all. Seemed to work for me.

After trying everything on the market I decided that Fabsil was the best overall performer on my Boxster. I put it on twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn.

Thanks all.
I’ll probably give it a quick spray over with some branded Audi Fabric protection fluid (£11.00 and no warranty arguments!)
Reading around, washing it with baby soap seems to crop up often 😳 so I’ll try to avoid getting too much car shampoo on it.
It’ll probably get changed in 2 or 3 years anyway.......😊

I'd echo the above comments, having driven convertibles for 15 years now. Blimey.

If the car is stored indoors, then there's little to be done apart from vacuuming the cloth (such the dirt out, not rub it in). However if it's outside all year round, then that's a different proposition.

Eventually, the roof will start to go green, they all do. (However my 718 at 15 months old is showing absolutely no characteristics). Care usually involves warm soapy water and a nail brush, then a treatment with a two part cleaner / protector. The water will bead on the roof if it is done well.

We've been wondering the same, God's been doing the job so far but the water doesn't bead anymore so spring project is to clean it properly.

We just never seem to get round to putting the hard top on being optimistic thus expecting one more sunny day.
