I also had a drive at PEC in 2017 and it just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer my Cayman 981S.
And a far sweeter flat 6. Loved my Cayman 981S, brilliant car and was my first Porsche which got me hooked

In our experience, the 718 is an improved machine of the already very good 981 in terms of chassis, how planted it is and sharpness of steering. Admittedly, it is not a gentleman's sports car, it's a hooligan that sometimes sounds like a motorbike, but makes you giggle. :-)
Our stable:
- 992 Carrera T - manual - Ruby Star Neo - Carrera Excl. wheels (2023)
- BMW 240i xDrive (G42) - Portimao Blue - AC Schnitzer tune
ex: 981 Cayman GTS, Macan S Diesl, Macan Turbo, 991.2 Carrera S, 718 Cayman GTS, i30 N, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

I think the 718 is generally very highly thought of except for the engine noise. I haven't driven one so can't compare the two but a friend of mine recently swapped her 981 Cayman S for a 718 Cayman GTS and thinks it's the nuts. Now with performance encroaching firmly into 911 territory it has to be the bargain sports car of the moment.

If I’m ever down your neck of the woods Simon you can tick driving a Cayenne Turbo off your list.
Cheers, Smithy. It would be an honour! :)

I think that I might prefer a 981 Cayman, Cayman S, or yes - a GT4! Having said that, I still think that the 718 Cayman S is a great bit of kit! :)

I drove a few 718s while I owned the 981 CS, both standard and S versions and while there were some improvements in the steering feel/cabin tech, plus the S on the move, was noticeably quicker to accelerate in 718 format, I was always glad to get back in the 981. It was the 'Subaru' engine that was the spoiler for me. Great engine in its own right, but seemed a retrograde step in a F6 Porsche hierarchy?

So I chopped the 981 in for a diesel Macan!! Go figure?
