Typical of America. I have a client company who opened a US office and began trading. Within a week they were being sued, and within a fortnight there were four suits against them. Apparently, those who feel offended don't ask directly for someone to cease and desist, they just get their lawyers involved.

Having spent over 20 years in the design business I’m frankly staggered...

1. By the utter banality of the solution. So facile in many ways that a coincidental solution must have been almost inevitable and 2. By the naivety of Liberty and/or their agency not to have done their due diligence.

I’m also surprised that as the 3M brand relates to orthopaedic support products - ankle/knee/elbow etc - someone on the medical side of the the teams etc didn’t spot it. Being 3M they must be a sizeable player.

Neither would I be surprised if someone at Liberty or whatever had pushed the solution onto the agency. I’ve seen that happen all too often - ‘here’s something the MD’s wife did...’. As I remember it all seemed to happen extremely quickly.

In fact it’s old news having first hit the headlines in January - less than 2 months after the new logo was unveiled.
