Just spent a week on a very small island, driving around in a 2-year old Hyundai i10. 1.2L petrol manual, and about the only advanced feature was electric windows (not a fancy European spec model).

85 ish HP, very long gearing, comical flywheel, go-kart handling. Brilliant fun. Struggles to get up some hills (need first gear) but still jolly.

Felt bloody fast at 70km/h and barely paved roads :-)

Back to basics can be fun sometimes!

My wife's Fabia was fun to drive, believe it or not. It had one of the slickest gear changes I've used.

A Suzuki Jimny is our regular transport in Barbados, not as much fun as a hatchback but pretty good on unmade and poorly maintained roads. Maybe I should get one for over here as well :-)

Driving something different from ones normal drive can certainly be at best fun, at worst terrifying.

Once had a beat up cr4p Honda Civic as a loaner whilst my car was in for service. Never went back to that garage again.

BTW
What are you driving now Adrian?

Had a car like that in Tobago last time. The secret to getting up hills was to turn off the AC.

On hot days that clapped out little car was the most comfortable place to be on the island.

Contrast all the above with the Nissan Armada V8 4wd I was driving last week from Vegas to the grand canyon via monent valley. Big, wallowy, horrible auto box, steering wheel vaguely connected to the front wheels!
Great on the straight bits but cr@p everywhere else!
Then into a 7 sear Dodge grand caravan in Tampa...all the above but without the V8.

Glad to be home and in the Macan again😁
