Firstly, a couple of facts to set the scene:

1) I do not own a Porsche
2) I drive an S3 (lease)
3) I want to buy a Macan GTS
4) Am so glad the internet bouncers let me into this club
5) I love watches

I have been lurking for a bit and trying to get info on whether to purchase a Macan. Have always loved the look and wanted something more substantial after the S3. Alternatives are X3 M40i and the GLC 43 Coupe. Stelvio four-leaf may also be one to watch. I say they're alternatives as if I am honestly considering them - I'm not. As much as I consider picking up the own-brand beans in Tesco, Heinz always end up in the basket. Not that I'm comparing the Macan to Beans - although the morning after said food in my place may sound similar to the GTS exhaust. But that's my problem.

When trying to figure out the best type to buy and in attempting to analyse the asking price of the current batch of Macans on the market in the UK, I came up with the following (sorry about the crap layout, I tried to do a screen grab but realised I had nowhere to upload it to - noobtastic)

Eg Price Milleage Reg OTR Option Total Age Value Change Value % % Change
1 59850 10590 16 58158 11616 69774 2 9924 85.78 -14.22
2 63500 6118 17 58158 9853 68011 1.5 4511 93.37 -6.63
3 62000 9084 66 58158 6571 64729 2 2729 95.78 -4.22
4 72995 180 18 58158 8853 67011 0.5 -5984 108.93 8.93
5 57990 24187 66 58158 8443 66601 2 8611 87.07 -12.93
6 59494 15145 66 58158 12658 70816 2 11322 84.01 -15.99
7 59995 7000 17 58158 7680 65838 1.5 5843 91.13 -8.87
8 56950 17750 16 58158 5212 63370 2.5 6420 89.87 -10.13
9 56997 18378 66 58158 5750 63908 2 6911 89.19 -10.81
10 56950 10500 66 58158 6996 65154 2 8204 87.41 -12.59
11 66995 1041 18 58158 10942 69100 0.5 2105 96.95 -3.05
12 64000 8998 17 58158 5960 64118 1.5 118 99.82 -0.18
13 71000 7798 67 58158 9310 67468 1 -3532 105.24 5.24
14 68900 7170 67 58158 9607 67765 1 -1135 101.67 1.67
15 62000 9084 66 58158 7470 65628 2 3628 94.47 -5.53

These egs are straight from the 'trader and inlclude a variety of assumptions on my part (including the obvious point that the Asking Price (AP) is the correct value). In summary, the average depreciation on the GTS looks like 5-9% in the first year with approx 10k miles; increasing to 13% in year 2 assuming another 10k road time.

Does that sound right to you experienced folk? At this rate, I won't be in a position to afford one! (budget was around £50k in the hope that Clydesdale would offer me something tasty).

Cheers in advance

If those are asking prices from a Porsche dealer, they will have added at least £7k to the trade in price. So depreciation to you would be significantly greater. If that it important to you, factor in a lower price when you work it out. If you are looking to buy second hand, it will obviously cost more from an OPC but you have some degree of security.

Welcome.

If a Macan is a can of Heinz beans

Then

The Beamer and Merc are most definately the Yellow Label value for money can of beans of indeterminate content.

In other words..... there is no ALTERNATIVE.

Am I correct if I assume that you have not yet had a test drive.

For all it takes is a test drive of a 3.0 litre and above Macan and you will then drop the Alternatives.

Macans are rubbish in base form (minimal inclusions except with GTS and Turbo), that is why there are none, all Macans have between 10 and 20% of their original cost made up of Extras, hence comparing cars that are for sale is a problem.

Select the car, note its VIN and get the Sales guy to prinout its full spec then you can work out its original price and the resultant depreciation for only then will you see what would be the best value one for you.

Or, just make a selection, horse trade and if you are happy enjoy the car.

Take my advice and expand your considerations to an S and a Turbo.

Looks like the OP has done this, Col, given the table above. ;)

If your budget is £50k then it's not looking good for you owning one this year. You may get a private seller getting closer to your budget but I'm not sure Clydesdale will finance a private purchase.

What a welcome! Cheers everyone and thank you for your input.

I think the OPC purchase is the right way to go - especially for a noob like me.

@Ian.g - thank you for the input - wow, didn't realise there's an (approx) £7k hike on trade ins.
@Guy - thanks for the formatted upload.
@Col Lamb - think you may be onto something - will def start to consider alternative models...
@Wing Commander - cheers fella.
@MCDK - you're right. It's becoming increasingly obvious that I won't be able to afford a GTS at this time...

Best advice is go round as many OPCs as you can and test drive the range.

There is a tremendous difference in feel on the move depending upon wheel size, tyre make, PASM and air suspension, you may even come across one without PASM if you do totally ignore what any SE says and discard it immediately, no PASM and everything about the ride and handling is a compromise.

Engine wise they all have Sport mode but some have the Sports Chrono pack which is Sport mode on steroids.

BTW standard halogen headlights are poor hence Xenons or LEDs are must have inclusions in any Macan

Know about the individual inclusions or Extras in a particular variant that will be important to you.

PASM, larger wheels, upgraded seats, pano roof, privacy glass, interior light pack, SD mirrors, Bose sound, lights are prime upgrades that frequently included in a build.
