I've been using Dr Leather wipes every couple of weeks to get the blue jeans stains off my Pebble Grey seat. Works a treat.

At the risk of being hammered, modern leather is, as I am led to believe, sealed just like paint is. Therefore, you are cleaning the sealer and nothing else. The so called conditioner is just a waste of time and money. A wipe with a damp cloth or perhaps saddle soap will do the same job. Only saying what I've been told by a professional detailer.

If you wish to change the colour of your leather seats, they will have to rub off the sealer before they apply the leather paint.

Interesting. I was just looking at the instructions for the Autoglym leather products that I purchased at the same time as my car (Sep 15) and have yet to use!

The Autoglym Leather Cleaner states: For use on automotive leather only, not suitable for unsealed leather, suede or highly porous surfaces.

And the Autoglym Leather Care Balm states: For use on automotive leather only, not suitable for unsealed leather, suede or highly porous surfaces.

Apparently you should clean the leather first and then apply the balm. Is there really any risk in following these instructions? I must admit that my garnet red leather is looking pretty good after three years, but it has been out in the UK sun for a few days this year and I wouldn't want it to fade/crack or whatever. Thoughts?

The sealant on the leather also contains a UV protection product. Our G plan furniture also states to use only a damp cloth to clean the leather. The Macan handbook also recommends a soft damp cloth but to remove 'heavy soiling' , use a leather cleaning agent preferably the Porsche Tequipment product (shock).

I always use Dr Leather wipes. They leave a matt finish with no shine.

Head over to detailing world, there is a guy on there (name escapes me) but he runs Dr Leather and he has a PhD in leather technology (degrees for anything these days), he knows a thing or 2 about leather.

His advice: modern auto leather DOES NOT need to be conditioned, it is painted and sealed. Just a quick wipe now and again will be suffice.

Be warned that some of the leather products do seem to generate an allergic reaction in some folks.

Autoglym leather care products do cause a reaction with myself and I end up with very red and sore eyes.

So my advice would be to test out your chosen product on a small area first.

As others have stated the leather has a vinyl coating in almost every car for the last 15+ years.

My detailer who has specialised in car leather for many years uses Gtechniq I2 Tri-Clean on any modern car.

I have used this for 2 years and is great for leather / plastic and almost any part of the interior including cleaning alcantara. Its PH neutral and kills bacteria at the same time 😉

Used on the Macan and numerous other make / model cars and leaves a natural clean finish.
GTS 😀
