There’s normally only one or two boats going and they take a few days to do the return journey - plus the cars don’t necessarily go on in order. So it’s another variable. Two to four weeks from build is a good guide.....
Macan GTS: PH1UFLL8
Wow, that's surprising, I would have thought all that is simple logistics planning and management and would have been a 'well trodden path,' a path trodden by a 'well oiled machine' a well oiled German machine!CharlesElliott wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 5:49 pm There’s normally only one or two boats going and they take a few days to do the return journey - plus the cars don’t necessarily go on in order.
So you've already fallen for the myth!

In my case,
1. Pay initial deposit
2. Receive invite to Porsche Experience Day at Silverstone. Go to Silverstone.
3. Confirm specification (often called 'lockdown').
4. (maybe) pay top up deposit, depending on OPC and spec. I didn't have to pay a top up deposit even though I had > £15K in options.
5. Wait
6. Car arrives
7. Pay balance
8. Pick up car
9. Repeat

As above from the others and no top up fee for me either.
I would think top up deposit is possible if crazy spec or in uncertain times (Upcoming Brexit as an example).
You missed point 9
9. Ask forum members what colour 911 you should get 12 months after Macan delivery

Test drive a car close to your spec, ie wheel size, seats, suspension
SE gives planned build date and asks for lockdown in x days
Lockdown, 6 weeks before build
Build, 3 working days max.
Transportation to OPC, a variable from 7 to 28 days, the OPC is not advised of actual delivery date.
SE rings and advises car has arrived at the OPC.

Images posted here, no images and it did not happen!!!!
ps
I am probably a little light with the above on the amount of Configurator activity usually undertaken
