Thought I’d just chip in, as I work for a financial institution.

The level of scams and fraud going on nowadays is truly terrifying, so it is no surprise to me that banks etc are tightening up on the security around large financial transactions. We may find it a pain at times, but far better to suffer a level of inconvenience once in a while, rather than see large sums of our hard-earned cash disappear forever, as is happening scarily regularly these days. Financial crime does seem to be an ‘industry’ that is ‘enjoying’ huge growth in recent years. :(

...and they get charge pence per transaction on Debit Cards (50 - 75 pence)

Yes, they will suffer a percentage on the transaction amount (typically 1.5%) on CREDIT cards but not on debit cards (caps for the benefit of your sales exec who doesn't actually know!)

My experience was similar, no credit card payment unless I payed the transaction charge. Debit card transaction cost minimal they said so no issues with that. They did take the initial deposit on a credit card as this adds financial protection if the dealer goes bust or the like.

We've done 2 bank transfers, leaving a final payment that my husband will do tomorrow. He's going in to see the detailer who is starting on the car, so we can get some before pics, :D

Thanks for all your responses, it was very reassuring others were in the same boat and useful to see how you handled the purchases. :geek:

My bank/building society only allows £10,000-at-a-time bank transfers: that takes some time, when buying a new Macan !

I took a suitcase full of cash. Helped me appreciate just how much it cost, and think about the opportunity cost of buying this. Okay, I'm joking, Used debit card, which was initially declined, but okay after calling the bank.

Paid deposits on credit card and then final payment by internet banking (first direct), but did have to call them to send. Had to chase the dealer for the details though...and they laughed when I said it was for Dick Lovett 😂😂😂
