I recently asked my dealer to value my Feb 2018 Turbo as I have a 992 S coming very shortly and plan to part-ex it. Anyway, to my horror he came up with 51k..I questioned this and it went to 53k..Again I was unsure because I had seen various Turbo's with similar mileage & spec going for 65k+, a couple even 70/72k.
I sent him my findings from Auto Trader asking him how it could have depreciated 27k from new! He went away and a few days later after another email he said he believes they valued the car harshly and so 55k is the region its in.
That's still 23k.
Does this sound right, its only done 8k.
The few I saw on Auto Traders were Porsche dealers.

Why does the price vary so much? I'm actually really confused because the dealer is just ignoring the market research I have sent.

The market has turned in the last 6 months and not all have realised that yet. Last Autumn the near new used market peaked due to the production shut down prior to the release of facelift Macan. I kept an eye on nearly new GTS's and cars that were for sale around £65k are now around £55k with the odd overpriced car. Also, OPC's and specialist dealers have a good stock compared with 9 months ago.

Also for a vehicle in this price range, the dealer turn between trade and retail will be in the region of a least £5k and more typically £7K to £10K.

After my Macan S was postponed and I cancelled my order I had to find a used car available immediately. I started to look at GTS but a lot of them are overpriced as people refuse to accept the fact the market has moved on. Few sellers telling me “yes but I paid 58k a few months ago for it”... well guess what, market clearing price doesn’t settle based on where you purchased them.

So I started to look at Turbo. I finally found a monster spec Turbo PP for less than 60k. Low miles, good condition and spec you would not find easily anywhere else.

Some of the GTS I had looked at with more miles and less spec are still advertised for similar money !!!

Goes to show..

I have a Feb 18 Turbo and tested it through We Buy Any Car and they offered £57k.
So when is this ‘old enough to know better’ supposed to kick in ?

Welcome! :)

Two things: Firstly, as has been said, the OPC will factor in a healthy profit margin for themselves on the re-sale of your car. Secondly, the prices being asked on Autotrader are not necessarily the same as what the seller will actually get. Certainly pays to try a few other OPCs though, or some upmarket used car dealers...

As I know to my cost, unless it's a rare model, cars and even Porsches do depreciate. :(

Thank you all for your replies..

I have requested a valuation from a different dealer in the mean time to see, I think I will ask the few I saw online who had the car at around the 72k mark.

I thought the dealer would be more willing if I was buying another car from them :?

Yep that was my naive thinking when I thought about chopping my GTS for a 992 a couple of months ago. Woeful offer from the dealer in pex and WBAC is still offering £4500 more than the dealer offered in Pex back in April. So the GTS stays, keep the 997 Turbo and don’t spaff £30k up the wall as soon as the 992 leaves the showroom..... They are nice but, for me, there are limits if the dealer won’t stand behind their own products.

Was the £4500 more price just from the WBAC website? Or was it a confirmed price after WBAC had inspected the car?

They often seem to find reasons to reduce their offer after seeing the car.

Purely from their web site but I have had prior experience and they have paid the price indicated. With 8000 miles on the clock the car is in exceptionally good condition and they would be hard pushed to find any reason to reduce the price......
