718 Cayman GT4
Hi Simon, the US appears to be Porsche's number 1 market, so as you say they get a much better supply of cars. I think the UK ranks pretty low in their league table.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 6:49 pmAgree 100%, Arif!
And they must make more profit on a GT4 than a standard 718, and more profit on a GT3 than a standard 991.2, so can’t see why they don’t make a lot more of the GT cars.
It seems that in the US, more GT cars are available proportionately. For example in 2018 and 2019, Porsche sent a lot more GT3s to the US than Carrera Ts. Even numbers for the GT3 RS and GT2 RS we’re higher than for the T in North America!
I think they'll also be making more on GT cars from the fact that they are likely to have a generous smattering of options put on too!
What I would say about GT cars and probably the best way of describing it is - you get a pure 100% unadulterated 911 experience it's not sanitised in any way - the handling, the accuracy of the steering, the planted nature of the car. Unless you've driven one you won't fully understand what I'm talking about but they are that bit more special to a 'conventional' 911
The other thing to say is that the Porsche Experience session for a GT car is probably essential as these cars need to be handled with respect and care. The fact that you are on super slick tyres means that they are great in the dry but need to be handled with great care in the wet. Tyre temperature is also really important for grip and this was illustrated to me in the PEC session.
GT cars are the best value raw sports cars on the market so in a way its not a surprise that the market readjusts to a higher level. Higher volumes would correct that to a degree.

Wise words, Arif.
Although my T is doubtless a better daily driver, especially being a sole car, I will probably always hanker after a GT3, especially a 991.2 GT3 with Touring Pack...
Ah well, one can dream...

Personally I’d go Racing Yellow, bucket seats and PCCBs.
Having said that, I preferred the 18-way seats in a 991.1 GT3 the other day, compared to sitting in the buckets of a GT4 and GT3 991.2 at Swindon OPC.
981 GT4 and Spyder prices are coming down a little now, but are still strong.
Hopefully the 718 versions will be available in much bigger numbers.

There is no such thing as a “must have” and as GT4s are usually in limited supply, you’d really have to mess up the spec to not get a really good price when selling/trading in.
