Having now sold my 4 month old Macan S for not being exciting enough, I am in need of info from those with owner experience of the Cayman S or GTS.
Tested a Jag F type 3.0 AWD 380ps today which sounded great and drove well. Test driving a 718 S on Friday but I’m a bit concerned with the engine sound track that will be on offer. Also how do they handle in bad weather with it only being RWD not AWD?
Any comments appreciated.
Going from Macan s to Cayman s or gts.
Comparing apples and oranges really. 4wd, front engined, 2 ton SUV VS perfectly balanced, mid-engined 2 seat sports car.
The sports car will win hands down every time handling-wise, wet or dry.
I loved my Cayman S (2008 vintage) and I love my current Macan GTS.

I have both a Macan and a 718 Cayman S. Apart from the obvious interior bits and pieces being familiar, that is where any comparison ends. My Cayman is my daily driver and has handled good and bad weather no different to any car I have ever had.
The handling is amazing and it is pretty quick. Economical on the motorway (it’s a PDK) and fun on a Sunday
The engine could sound better but the main sound you hear is road/tyre roar on concrete surfaces compared to most other cars. There is no soundproofing in the wheel wells
Let me know what else you would like to know

As Paul has said they're totally different.
The Macan is the best car I've ever had for driving to see the kids in France, quiet and fast when needed.
The 911, like a Cayman, is best for nipping round country lanes in a go karty sort of way.
In the snow and mud I use the Macan.

With respect guys, the OP was asking for users' experience of Cayman S or GTS. His Macan has already gone!

I had a Cayman S (981) before the Macan GTS and it was the best handling car I've ever owned despite being RWD. These cars are very precise, nimble and quick and it was never upset in the wet even when pushing on a bit. I don't like the sound much of the 4 pot engine but a friend of mine has a 718 GTS after having a 6 pot N/A and says that the extra torque more than makes up for the sound and couldn't be happier. HTH.
