I have a SD which I love. The handling, the ride, the V8 like torque are all good. I believe the BMW straight six twin turbo is better but regardless of what diesel engine is fitted it needs fuel. Now this brings me to the downside, filling up. Because it is such a dirty business, I run the tank down until the refuel warning pings up which it did two days ago.I swanned into my local Asda for cheap diesel having emptied a tank of V-power and filled up. I carry a box of latex gloves to wear whilst filling up and then bin them. Imagine my shock when minutes into driving home the unmistakably aroma of the Devil's fuel hit my nose. Turns out the puddle I was standing in wasn't water but diesel  . My footwear stinks of it, the mats have been out a washed several times but I fear my shoes will have to go into the bin as no amount of scrubbing with a variety of products can get rid of the stench.

Makes feel like switching to a petrol car unless anyone has any bright ideas to rid my Sketchers of the pong?

Well if you will go to Asda for cheap diesel!

Don't know if it'll work with diesel smells, but my wife washes her trainers in the washing machine. You could try spraying them first with a scented stain remover.

Surely you'd have stood in the diesel whatever fuel you'd been filling with, or am I missing something?

Maybe an ASDA plastic bag on each foot is the answer, but if you try it, be sure to post some photos!

(EDIT: And try Jeyes fluid to get rid of the smell - ASDA do sell it!)

As well as wearing plastic gloves I am also very aware of the ground as it is often covered with spilled fuel.

Washing with even washing up liquid should get rid of the diesel smell. Soaking the sole overnight might also be worth a try.

Good luck. :D :D :D

Thanks guys. Good point about whatever you fill up with there's a chance to stand in Diesel excrement as these days petrol and diesel are together. I've tried most of the recommendations for cleaning which didn't work. Sandpaper next. Jeyes Fluid!!!! I'd rather have Diesel smell and as for using ASDA, I'm not a snob when it comes to shopping. Fuel is fuel so why pay more for the same stuff? Yes, it is the same stuff as ordinary Shell as it has to meet BS standards.

Don't know if your aware, but Diesel is classed as an oil. It's not like petrol, which has a similar viscosity as water. You might try getting some engine de-greaser from a local car parts shop. This is normally water soluble. Wash the offended items in it, then with soapy water, (lemon scented would be good). That might save the items from the bin.
