The difference between a 2l Macan and a V6 is enormous and yet the price difference is comparatively modest. 😉

I’m mystified why but in AU, a S is 24+% more than a Base and a T only 3% extra.

That “modest increase” is less so in other countries.

Road tax issues make the 4 cylinder much more attractive in some areas too.

It is interesting how different markets are priced? In UK there is 10% difference between a base and an S and only £600 difference between a T and an S!!
Probably down to options included or otherwise but also what price any given market will bear??

The price difference may be minimal without any options, starts at £600 but when you factor in some of the other "necessary" options, between my T (http://www.porsche-code.com/PNHITIP7)and S spec (http://www.porsche-code.com/PN98A9Q6) cars there was a £6k difference. Hardly negligible.

Anyway, I couldn't wait for an S (or GTS for that matter). Dealer could get me in a T in June. It's in Sheerness at the moment. And I'll collect soon.

For most people the 2.0T gives more than ample everyday performance, ,equivalent to a warm/hot hatch so hardly a slouch. It might not be as dramatic as an S/GTS/Turbo but there's not many chances to deploy that extra power on UK roads, not without being a loon or clocking up speeding tickets. Yes the 6 cylinders sound better, but you pay more for that priviledge in cost, servicing, tax, insurance and fuel.
Hear, hear! Enough of bashing the 2.0 Macans already! Boring!

Porsches with the ‘base’ engine are all perfectly fine vehicles, be it a Macan, Panamera, 911 or whatever. And in my opinion, the ‘base’ model, or T, offer good value for money compared to the S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S derivatives etc. :geek:

In normal circumstances I’d have gone for the T in a heartbeat. I just fancied owning a V6 before they disappear off the planet forever :D

Not quite sure there is any “bashing” of the T going on Simon 🤔
I do agree that in most models where it occurs the T is good value, I just don’t happen to hold that opinion about the Macan version.
However, like most things on here, it’s just an opinion so we can just simply agree to differ I think on this one 😂

It’s more a general case of 2.0 bashing (which includes the T) and there’s one person in particular (not you, Jon) who takes every opportunity to slag off the 2.0 Macan, despite the various improvements since the original Gen I version.

Agreed, nothing wrong with a 2.0l version, I just think the “T” would have Been better with the 2.0l Cayman engine to sit it squarely between base and S…
I also realise that actually being able to get a car in some sort of reasonable timeframe is very important - I myself am questioning the value of this with my 992 order 😳

All the Ts (911, Cayman, Boxster and Macan) have all been equipped with the ‘base’ engine. ;)

I don’t think I’d have the patience to wait two years (?) for a new 992. Luckily I’m perfectly happy to hang on to my 4 year old T. :)

Cheers,
Simon

Over the last 6 months I have driven a new 2.0 litre base, a new S and a 69 plate S which I currently own and have done 1500 miles in.
As others have said the S V6 whether Gen 3 or Gen 2 is a different car than the 2 litre base. the performance of the S is far greater than the base . Ive gone for the S based on my test drives and current Macan.
The S makes me smile every time I drive it, the performance is fantastic. OK, it can be a bit thirsty on short trips like the school run but on motorways it usually delivers 28 to 32mpg.
Ive ordered a new S and will probably keep it till i go electric in around 5 years.
Where I live you don't see too many Porsches but in last 2 months I have seen around 10 new Macans, a few Cayennes and around 5 Taycans. The odd 911 occasionally rears its head.
If you can stump up the extra for an S or GTS I would thoroughly recommend it.
