These contests are usually fixed so the car the presenter likes wins. When I used to watch Top Gear (mainly because my kids watched it) I recall that prat Clarkson criticising the then new X3 because it wouldn't go up a wet grassy incline whereas a Discovery would. X3 on run flat road tyres of course, Disco on better tyres. Clarkson probably on some deal for Land Rover. Also, why do people relish not pronouncing Porsche correctly? This bloke that says Porsch A is a 'girls name' in this video (so is Mercedes) is just ignorant. I take CAR magazine as a freebie from my bank and every Giant test I can remember involving a Porsche, particularly a 911, the Porsche wins. Probably because it's the best car of course.

Probably because it sounds pretentious. We don't say Bay Em Vay, Sitrurn, Moonchen, Paree or any number of foreign proper nouns in normal conversation. If I am in France or Germany I will use local pronunciation but in the UK I speak English.

I am at a loss why pronouncing a word correctly may sound pretentious. This is just a state of mind created by sneering 'hip' media types. What is ' Bay Em Vay anyway? I get Munich and Paris but the German for Porsche is Porsche and in the UK and the rest of the world it is also Porsche and is pronounced as described. If I am deemed to be pretentious i.e. trying to impress others by pretending I am better than I actually am, then so be it.
