Porsche and VAG are facing 2 law suits following the catastrophic fire on the "Felicity Ace" car carrier ship, which resulted in the loss of 3800 high-end cars. It's claimed that the fire was started by a Porsche EV. It will be intriguing to see how this plays out, there's big money involved.

Alas, seems that it's not only range anxiety and bulky design of EVs that will ruin a top marque brand.

Unless there was human negligence involved it'll be a fight among the insurers as to who picks up what.

I’m seeing a lot of pushback from insurers who are being asked to cover large fleets of EV’s stored in a single location.
Conditions such as having a 3M clear zone around each vehicle. Effectively, requiring 2 parking spaces per vehicle which halves the number of cars you can facilitate in a single location.
Insurers are waking up to the ferocity of an EV fire and are doing whatever they can to minimise their risk.

Is that 3 metres or 3 miles? ;) :P

Well, at present, it is metres, but the more risk averse insurers will no doubt insist on 3 miles :)

There was also the fire aboard the Freemantle Highway, but that is still under investigation as to the cause.

With all the EV fires that are posted it must cast doubt as to the safety of an EV.

Just search “Mercedes Benz EV fire” and there are dozens of videos on Youtube, one even shows the owners house on fire as they were charging their MB EQE inside their garage.

Yet another reason why Insurance Premiums are probably going to rise even further.

Must make mental note, only park in open spaces well away from an EV!

Statistically more ICE cars catch fire, but they don’t make for good sensationalist headlines!

0.0012% for EV compared to 0.1% for ICE

We have 2 ICE and an EV and haven’t had any issues with either!

Yes, BUT, they don't burn as hot, they aren't nigh on impossible to extinguish and generally they don't take multistorey concrete car parks or ships with them when they do. Oh and people haven't been banging on for years about how they're going to save the planet. :D
