Issue with my 718s - I've had it since new - with 44.5k on the clock. 2017 model, manufactured in 2016. Third gear just 'went'. It selects fine, but there is no torque transmission. No noises, no leaks, no cables popped off.

From what I can research, the third gear went from being on a key to the shaft to being welded on. The weld gives up and there's no drive. Apparently the solution is to replace the gearbox completely as there is no repair. Car selects all gears as normal and drive as normal in the other five gears.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't opt for an extended warranty so it looks like I'm in for an expensive repair bill.

Ouch… Think a new replacement via OPC could be more than half the trade value of the car ( with a fully functional Box ). If you have a good Indy and can source a box from a stripped down 718, there are several on E Bay, you’ll save a packet. Though still just the issue of establishing that the replacement box is sound. Would be interested to know what your OPC quotes for the job?

Yep, I'm leaving it into Belfast later today and we will see what happens. When they diagnose and advise a cost of repair I will update everyone. Apparently they only sell complete new replacement gearboxes, not on an exchange basis, and no individual parts so it looks like it might be costly.

Might be worth a phone round some gearbox specialists. Surely someone can repair it.

Good luck.

There must be parts available for manual Boxster/Cayman gearboxes as someone I know has had gear ratios in his GT4 changed for better race/track ratios. Try speaking to Strasse in Leeds as they prepare/service his car. Not sure if it is a 918 or a 718 GT4.
