(even though dated April 1, part 2 is dated April 2). Macan is at #33.

'Not just a boil-washed Porsche Cayenne but
actually an altogether better-handling and more remarkable car. Sure,
it isn't hugely practical by SUV standards, but it's nothing short of
amazing to drive hard - provided you get the optional specification
right. The diesel variant is a bit ordinary, but the full-house Turbo
model is a revelation.'

The SD seemed special enough in the real world, when you get to drive 500 cars a year you probably get a bit blasé.
And for me the negatives aren't really for my lifestyle.

They have to sell a magazine that sells to the masses hence mass produced cars will be the mainstay of those at the top with a smattering of limited production run motors just to add interest.

In other words, take with a pinch of salt, a large pinch at that

Am correct in thinking some editors and others celebrities get loan cars or at least very favourable deals, which tend to influences results especially when they are higher value vehicles from a certain manufacturers?

Magazines have to appeal to the broadest number of readers....hence the " best" car costs £15K and the 33rd best costs a mere £45K!

I expect it's all rather formulaic. The value of each thing is weighted based on a number of factors, popularity, perceived importance, price, good-enough quality, and so on. Value for money plays a big part.

So yes, a Duster is almost certainly going to score higher than a Macan.

Even if you narrow the scope down to a single model, the formulas still apply, which is why you could have a Macan SD scoring higher than a GTS.

What would be fun, would be for the reader to give their own weightings for all the criteria, and then get an individual top 50 :)

Just in case you haven't read it, a maclaren 650s was their favourite, followed by golf r, and then 991 Gt3rs, so not necessarily a case of cost being the deciding factor.
They praised the Macan (turbo), they just commented that the default standard diesel spec was not necessarily high on their list of favourite cars.
Having driven a lot of the cars in their top 50, I concur with most of their comments.

I hadn't read this one, so surprised, given these lists over the last ten years or so are generally a bit tedious.

Edit as I've now read it: "The rules are that blind prejudice rules " - so journalistic views. That's cool then.
