I don’t think the motivation for doing this was ever cost?
Incredible.
The UK is responsible for maybe 1% of the world's pollution. Whatever we do will make virtually no difference to the planet. Meanwhile, China and India are continuing to pour massive amounts of filth into the sky, and are indeed increasing their pollution output as time goes by. The UK's "net zero" ambition is a farce, and a very expensive one.

Currently 1%, but the levels were almost certainly a lot higher historically during the Industrial revolution for example. Quite easy to say they are pumping filth into the sky when other countries have been there and done that.

I do get that developing countries are reliant on more dated tech to generate power, but at least put a muzzle / filter on it, like Europe did in the 80’s. It made considerable difference

You’re wasting your time mate. People have very polarised opinions of the climate change issue. Heaps of misinformation out there that drives the debate that makes huge amounts money for those involved. We live in the age of BS and greed. Modern vehicles are pretty much insignificant compared to big industry and energy producers. Best to just enjoy your ICE whilst you still can 😉

Both India and China, have said that the West have used this sort of polluting power to develop to where we are now. And goes on to say it's their turn to develop, by using whatever means are available.
I do see their point which is somewhat correct. But the advancement of science and knowledge, available now regarding the consequences, could be catastrophic for all.
