It seems as though Porsche is prioritising high-margin, low-volume models to protect the overall profitability of the business:

Sells in such tiny numbers (relatively) that even at €500k, with the huge development costs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t make a profit on these. More of a ‘halo’ product, I’d say...

I do not believe those GT models even give Porsche their development costs back. they contribute a lot to brand image but the profits come from the likes of the Macan and Cayenne

Consequently, the new 4.2-litre six-cylinder is better suited to gentleman drivers....what's a gentleman driver?

They’re talking about people who buy these cars (GT3 R) to race in events. As the cars are €511k plus VAT and options, not to mention running costs, I think it’s mostly a millionaires-only sport/hobby. ;)

Lots of garage-queens are surfacing on the market.

Today I saw ~10y old Targa with ~5’000 mi. The vehicle in a top condition, but £75k is shocking!

That's why I've not parted with any cash yet, crazy prices.
I took screen shots of some cars for sale over a month ago, all are still for sale and still the same price.
