As Makanik's post shows, the default view of "Surround View" does include a top view, it's just not full screen. It's very useful in confined spaces to see exactly where the car is in relation to any obstacle. When you are close to an obstruction the small screen view also includes an illustration of which of the sensors is causing the warning sound.

Having experienced it, I wouldn't be without it. When pulling out of a "blind junction", It's very useful to be able to call up the front panoramic view to give you a view of the road before poking the bonnet out (you can match the system to the diamond button on the steering wheel to turn it on when the sensors haven't done so).
