Tyres need a minimum of 50 miles running in from new and at no more than 50 mph. Brakes will be similar avoiding heavy braking / emergency stops.

Engine etc 1,800 miles of bedding in, avoiding maximum revs and max engine load. Speeds to be varied; no prolonged constant speed driving.

Sympathetic running-in will give the best bedding in process for long life.

Thanks Simon. If that's the extent if it, keeping to 4000rpm should be doable in all bar extreme circumstances. I guess your 911 is not homologated for towing, but if the advice is indeed the same for Macan - ie no mention of towing restrictions during the run in period - then I'll feel a lot more relaxed if the S does arrive in time.

Not so straight forward when towing. The 'box will select the most appropriate cog for the situation, and towing 1400kg up a steep, twisting B-road (for example) may see it hold a lower gear at higher revs than would adhere to your suggestion.
In those situations I would use manual and change gear accordingly to stay under 4000 revs. There is plenty of torque and power to avoid overstressing the engine.

With the arrival of my S now looking possible by mid June, and a trip away with the caravan planned for July, I need to consider whether any 'running in' of the engine/box should be completed before hitching 1400kg on the back and dragging it 300 miles.

Having read various references to running in periods, I'm none the wiser as to what exactly is recommended (or for how long/far), and whether any of it is actually required in order to comply with Porsche requirements.

Any thoughts or pointers, particularly to 'official' advice, would be greatly appreciated.
You’ve got a whole two weeks to do 1800 miles - 128 a day job done.

Weird. I have the app but even searching for 'running' returns no result. Thanks again 👍🏻

I assume the caravan is heavy

Do you really want to put your new car under that additional strain for the engine, ‘box and brakes

No way I would but then again I stay in hotels…

1800 miles would normally take me around 3 months to cover. Even allowing for the exuberance of having a new car I'd struggle to justify doing that in two weeks :o

As mentioned, 1400kg, and ideally no I wouldn't, and I certainly won't tow it 'straight out of the box', but I may well not get to do the full 1800+ miles before doing so.

It's that or delay picking up the car until we return.
