Macan EV
Governments of all shades will price a lot of petrol and diesel vehicles off the road. In fact a Labour / SNP coalition next time round will only accelerate it. Tax and more and more congestion charges. I run an electric vehicle as a second car never had an issue with range just good planning and a state of mind. Charge at home on solar and battery it’s a no brainier costs me 2p a mile to run no real servicing or road tax. That’s without running it with all advantages that an employee or business owner can get.

Camping & Caravanning Club just did a test with the Kia EV6.
Official range - 314 miles
Test range (solo) - 232 miles
Test range (towing) - 101.5 miles
Not sure what weight it was towing but max permissable is 1600kg so will have been less than that.
We tow circa 1400kg so will be keeping our Macan for the foreseeable.

Germany have announced they will not support the proposed EU 2035 ICE ban.

I think 232 sounds about right with mixed driving although other tests on this model are coming out at 230ish in winter and 260ish in summer.
Not sure any EV will tow a load efficiently so ICE still required here.
It could be that some of the, err, more mature gentleman on here may not have to worry too much about EV’s in the future, but they are definitely here to stay I think.
The fact is they are quicker, quieter and more advanced tech than ICE and I for one don’t intend to get blinkered by nostalgia or just good old fashioned change
Ultimately we all have a choice for some time yet, I’m just not too keen on petrol prices right now and am considering the change up early.
I do like my Macan, I really do, but I’m not wedded to it so to speak…

Worried a large part of their car industry will be wiped out by new Chinese and other Far Eastern EV manufacturers plus the likes of Tesla etcBluesnose1812 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:05 pm Germany have announced they will not support the proposed EU 2035 ICE ban.
Can’t see them competing in the volume electric market
Think they piggybacked on the What Car “tow car awards” test (EV6 is current winner). Same range achieved but towing a non legal 2090 kg kerb weight around a test track…Old Chimer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:59 pmCamping & Caravanning Club just did a test with the Kia EV6.

I have a Tesla M3 LR (sold the Macan S last October). The M3 is as fast as the Macan S and the ride (electric / no gears etc) makes it far more responsive . . . on a full charge I get a full 350 miles and the Tesla supercharger will put 200 miles in the clock in 15 mins. All that all beats the Macan hands down. So why am I on the list for the Macan EV ? . . . I don't like the style of the Tesla out and in, it's plain and boring and I don't like the big screen and the tech for the sake of tech (just getting the heater right is hard work)Jon A wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:24 pm My neighbour three doors away has had a Tesla 3 performance for around six months now. I asked him if he was happy that he had access to the Tesla network but he said he’d never charged it anywhere except at home! May be when you get a genuine 300 to 350 mile range, the charging “network” will become moot…

If you are struggling with the price of fuel in todays market imagine what they'll be when your shiney new 911 arrives in 24. Perhaps on reflection not the smartest move going forwardJon A wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 9:15 pm I think 232 sounds about right with mixed driving although other tests on this model are coming out at 230ish in winter and 260ish in summer.

Seriously do not believe that an EV will be any cheaper to run by 2031. All the tax taken from ICE owners will be systematically transferred to EVs, which btw have to reach 70000 miles before they become carbon neutral. Just in time to start with a new set of batteries at £17K a throw
