Having previously owned a couple of Boxsters (S), I tended to put in roughly one tank full of Super Unleaded (97/98 RON) for every 3 of normal Unleaded (95 RON). I've now taken delivery of a Macan Turbo (2017 Porsche Approved) and wondered what type of fuel and ratio (if at all) is recommended.
This post viewtopic.php?t=13077 shows my (some may say sad) analysis of fuel used by my Gen2 S for the time I had it. 10 months and 11.5k miles in its replacement has returned 24.59mpg overall, exclusively on ESSO Supreme. Is that due to greater power output, more ethanol, shorter journeys, Pirelli tyres.... we'll never know!

E10 fuel is causing problems.
Can you show us actual examples of E10 problems?? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

It's all on-line. Easy to find with plenty of newspaper articles about it.

Found a long thread suggesting 95 is a minimum for the S and all others 98:

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ True. All cars built in Europe post 2011 are fully compatible to operate using E10 Fuel, although the lower octane level is not advised for high performance engines. Itโ€™s the older vehicles with rubber fuel pipes, different metals, carbs etc that can be problematic.

On-Track wrote: โ†‘Thu Dec 07, 2023 10:41 am I prefer Esso because in most parts of the country it is still bioethanol free.
Not the case now, sadly. Since September Esso were forced to comply with govt mandate and so Supreme 99 now contains 'up to 5%' ethanol everywhere.
Nick,
Im sure previous threads covered this and detail from myself, it all depends on the "Refinery" where the fuel comes from and you were right Esso had issues or some would say good one that their fuel had no Ethanol in it.

The legislation is still worded and the EN No for unleaded and Super Unleaded fuels still define as "Up to". so a tea spoonfull of Ethanol in a 40,000L tanker will certainly contain "Up To" the stated legal percentage ;) ;)

Issue with Ethanol is it acts as a detergent, so age of car and the whole fuel system from the fill cap to injector can be at risk especially any plastics and rubbers as they will deteriate over time. Cars older than 15 years are at the most risk with the up to 10% Ethanol content. I know in my world of work many rural filling stations with older storage tanks, pipelines and dispensers all had to be replaced, its the seals mostly and jointing compounds that fail.

Many outboard engines and internal storage tanks and fuel lines for boats have perished and sufferred as advertising by the fuel companies and motoring media covered vast majority of people, but folks with boats and drive on lawnmowers etc didnt see or receive same amount of warning media.

The environmental people wish to see a even greater % of Ethanol, but Gov and industry and EA /SEPA have all said no as that would put most cars off the road far far quicker than the so called EV introduction.

Cheers GTB.

Shell V Power.

The manual says if we use a lesser RON, not to use heavy engine loads, hence WTF is the use of scrimping on fuel.

If you want to scrimp in your car, sell it buy a Dacia and run that into the ground.

This is taken from the 2022 Macan good to know app:-

If the recommended fuel is not available, unleaded fuels without metallic additives with octane numbers of 91 RON/82.5 MON can be used in an emergency. However, this could reduce performance and increase fuel consumption.

Use unleaded fuels without metallic additives with octane numbers of at least 91 RON/82.5 MON.
Do not drive at full throttle if you are using unleaded fuel with octane numbers of 91 RON/82.5 MON.
