VOICE CONTROL.... "Play BBC radio 4" (depending on current source you might need to add in "D A B".
it's time to bring buttons back for controlling your car

You must not have a strong Yorkie accent Neil.
I have had zero success with any Voice operated system

Absolutely not, I'm from the Wirral originally only lived in Sheffield for 37 years as yet, who said resistance was futile?Col Lamb wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 11:38 amYou must not have a strong Yorkie accent Neil.

Unless people have used the BMW I-Drive system, they won't know just how good it is. However, even BMW are going down the touchscreen only route and removing the scrolling knob and some of the dials & switches.Col Lamb wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 11:11 am I loath touchscreens for everything.
They are inherently dangerous in that you have to have your eyes off the road longer than necessary to enable the desired control to be operated. Physical switches are IMO far safer.
Additionally a fully integrated system is again not ideal, if a car with an integrated system is online then there is the potential for hacking.
The car control system and infotainment should be two distinctly unconnected/unlinked systems.
I much prefer the BMW iDrive single large knob for scrolling menu’s.
As the MFD has the scroll and control right at ones fingertips then surely making it possible to switch between the MFD and PCM to navigate either would be far better, oh wait, it is VW/Porsche Tech we are talking about so anything could happen.
I don't mind the centre console on my Gen 3 Macan, and the switch for the temperature control is easy to adjust with muscle memory for where it is. But I hate having to use the touchscreen while driving.
My GR Yaris has the most complicated touchscreen ever. Hateful thing and trying to find music files takes far too long (eyes off road) and lots of sub-menus. But at least temperature controls are still dials and switches.
Looks good.
Reminiscent of Porsche 359 and those wheels are again the Porsche Sport Design lookalike that I nearly spec’d myself.
That dash is ‘60’s Mini deluxe surrounded by engine turned ally, far better than the fake add ons most marques do.
You could always have the trims in a Macan fitted with engine turned wrap.

Agree with all said. Touch screens are like TV screens, in the console. And it is illegal for a TV screen in use, to be in view of the driver. So there is not much difference with the time spent looking at the damn things, to navigate where you want to be.
Because it can be done, it doesn't mean to say it has to be so.
Long live buttons.
